LIBERTY Theatre; Libertyville, Illinois.
In April of 2012, a special screening of “The Avengers” at the LIBERTY Theatre was sponsored by Acura of Libertyville as a customer appreciation party. Scott Dehn, new owner of the LIBERTY Theatre, welcomed the guests and played a trivia game with prizes supplied by the Acura dealership. Dehn told some of the history of the LIBERTY Theatre – how Marlon Brando ushered there (and mentioned it in his autobiography “Songs My Mother Taught Me”), and that the LIBERTY hosted the world premiere of 1942’s “Desperate Journey” with Errol Flynn and Ronald Reagan, and how he came to be the owner in January, 2012 along with the McHENRY Drive-In Theatre in that city. Owning theatres had been his dream, though he talked of the challenges, as with any small business, that go along with the advantages. Dehn felt that his biggest reward was seeing how his team grew personally while working at the theatre and said that he’d see them “come out of their shells” as they welcomed guests and played audience trivia games. Dehn and his team then worked on upgrading the interior of the LIBERTY, and his family and friends gathered to update the lobby in a fresh color scheme to create an atmosphere reminiscent of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
