I love this theater. But in seeing “OBLIVION” this morning, I had to experience the “RESERVED SEATING” policy for the first time. This is a disastrous policy in my book.

It not only wastes time at the ticket booth, but it doesn’t take into account that many patrons may have “sight line” issues when it comes to seating. Especially if the film is in 3D. And it takes away choice in regards to where people (especially those who come in early) prefer to comfortably sit.

This isn’t a Broadway musical or concert we’re talking about.

I shot off an email and a FACEBOOK rant to AMC and the theater regarding this absolutely stupid policy.

Otherwise, “OBLIVION” was stunning to see in IMAX. But with all the other big summer releases making their way, unless you pre-plan and know EXACTLY where you want to sit, good luck enjoying this theater’s new IMAX seating policy.

Well, According to today’s NY POST, this does not look like good news…

I’ve gone to this theater since I was a kid. And it was one of the things I missed about New York when I moved away for a number of years.

The last film I saw there recently was “THE HUNGER GAMES”. This will a sad day for the New York Film community if this theater actually closes for good.

All the “money people” in this city who are film fans, And a few of them can’t even get together and save this theater?

After seeing “IRON MAN 2” at the IMAX in Lincoln Square 13, I was curious to see it in RPX at the Regal E-Walk. I knew I was going to pay $18.50, so that wasn’t shocking. This is New York after all.

I will say that I was completely impressed with the RPX theater and its presentation. The theater is beautifully designed. The seats were pretty plush. Picture was stunning!

Most of all, the sound was the CLEANEST I’ve ever heard. The bass was totally clean, not muddy. But it was so LOUD, that at times, I felt my clothes were going to fly right off off me. To say the theater has those sub-woofers strategically placed isn’t a joke. I still have a mild headache.

I did speak to some of the staff afterwards. They said that Regal E-Walk isn’t playing in regards to this theater. No saving seats when it gets close to showtime. And they are adamant about throwing people who “act up” OUT! As to not spoil other patrons' enjoyment. They want the audience to have the BEST experience out of this theater possible.

Overall I thought it was a nice experience. There were less than 15 people there in the 350-seater. Which made it even more pleasant.

Will I see every film released there? No. $18.50 to see a film is steep. But for seeing something (again) like “IRON MAN 2” which I loved, I thought it was worth it. But I doubt I’m going to see “TOY STORY 3-D” there. I was told that’s going to be the next film there.

When I was livng in Portland, OR, I would make frquent trips to Seattle. On one of my trips, I took the oppotunity to see “TITUS” at the Cinerama. I have to say that it was one of the BEST theater experiences I’ve ever had. The theater was MARVELOUS (as was the film)!!!

I just moved back to New York late last year (after spending 15 years in the Pacific NorthWest). And we have just had the disheartening feeling of having the Loew’s Astor Plaza, one of the last large single screen theaters left, close.

I hope those of you who are TRUE theater fans in Seattle will hold on to the Cinerama. Though his handling of the BLAZERS leaves a lot to be desired, Paul Allen gets major props from me for his work on the Cinerama.

GOD!!!

I just about cried in shock, when I read David Hinckley’s column in today’s New York Daily News about the closing of this great theater.
I am just so upset. This was my FAVORITE New York theater since the 70s.

I just moved back to New York late last year, after living 15 years in Oregon (MultiPlex Haven). And the Astor Plaza was a refuge from the MultiPlex-Mania permeating this country for the last 20 years.

Though I, at least got to see “HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKHABAN” & “SPIDER-MAN 2” at the theater recently, I’m still disheartened of its closing.
