Blessedtwoday: I attended Senn High School too; it’s always nice to bump into a fellow “Sennite” online. and I also remember when the price increased from $0.75 to $0.90. I hung around the Bryn Mawr theater in the late 70’s and then again when it reopened as The New Bryn Mawr theater in the early 80’s. Best regards.
Wow! Thank you so much for posting this pic, ken mc. And I remember that double feature as well. I used to ride the #74 Peterson bus to school(I graduated from Senn High School). Fridays were exeptionally cool because that’s when shows would change. Come to think about it, when is the last time a theater had double features?? I sure miss those.
Gary, If I recall correctly “Hanky Panky” was a comedy with Gene Wilder and his wife, the late Gilda Radner. I remember that ad quite well. It would be great to see the slide of the marqee that you have.
Be well.

I attended the Chestnut Station theater only once. I don’t recall what movie I went in to see due to the fact that I asked for refund because of the distraction. Who in their right mind decorates the doorframe to an auditorium with neon lights? Very bright neon lights!
Having grown up within a ¼ mile radius, this movie house was pretty much my stomping ground in the late 70s and early 80s. I saw many films here(all 2nd runs)including Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jaws 2, the 1979 re-release of Star Wars as well as many forgettable horror movies of the late 70s. The theater changed hands sometime in 1981 and for about 2 years it was known as the Gar Wah and showed mostly Asian movies. It changed hands again around 1983 and opened as The New Bryn Mawr Theater. By 1986, it did begin to get a little ‘Messy’ and I started to attend First-Run theaters. Still, I have many fond memories.
I saw Superman-The Movie here. It was either late 1978 or early 1979. I remember the lobby was decorated with several mobiles that a few rowdy teenagers tried(unsuccesfully) to steal!
This was the first movie house I ever attended! I arrived in the U.S. in July, 1975. Being from a small town in Mexico, I had never attended one. My older brother got me hooked on movies!!! Anyway, I recall seeing a Mexican vampire film and a western (I have no idea of the titles) and my brother had a girlfriend who cashiered at a small record store next door to the theater. So began my long love of movies.

Now if only Hollywood could produce a movie that’s actually worth paying $50.00 for.
AMC stands for “All May Close”
ken mc, given the show at the Lyric, this looks to be circa 1985 not 1979.
