A company called Nvents has just taken over management for the Capitol Theater. The bathrooms have been expanded plus a bar, more lighting and stage improvements have all been added.
Here’s a link to the website.

It looks like it’s going to be a more of a concert venue.
At least it’s being used!

The Strand is still standing and will be re-opened sometime in 2008.

Scott Community College and the City of Davenport have actually been utilizing this theater. A few acts are booked every month. It could use a few coats of paint but it’s still very beautiful on the inside.

The Adler was just reopened after over a year of extensive renovation to the stage so it can attract more broadway plays. Plus, it will be celebrating it’s 75th anniversary.

The Rocket closed in March of 2006 and is now sitting empty again much like the entire Rock Island downtown.

Kudos to Mr. Noller for spending his money on something he loves.

It didn’t take too much research on Grand Venues to figure out where this project will be headed. I hope the people of Youngstown do the same. These guys sound like a couple of snakes.

If you take a look at that theater, $3.5 million won’t even get the front doors open. It’s in bad shape.

Grand Venues.
Huh.
Intriguing?

It seems like the NYC Landmark Commission is becoming famous(or infamous) for tearing down old landmarks instead of building new ones. Not good.

It’s good to hear that things are being done to preserve this theatre. I really wish the City of Davenport would utilize this building more. I feel that the true gem in downtown Davenport is the Capitol and not the Adler but all the attention and renovations and money go to the Adler Theatre. Don’t get me wrong, the Adler is beautiful but I would love to see the Capitol brought back to it’s former glory.

Thanks for the update, mwspenge.

I visited the Rocket this past weekend for a concert and it’s great!
I was curious about the looks of the theatre from the inside and I can tell you that it’s really nice.
It’s a perfect venue for movies and concerts like the one I attended.

A job well done, Devin.

It’s a beautiful Rapp & Rapp house built in 1920 and it needs some TLC.
Let’s hope the community college really cares.

I was just in this theatre last week and it’s really starting to go downhill. It doesn’t look like the college has put a penny into it since it was endowed to them a few years ago, some of the seats are ripped and the plaster ornamentation is starting to fall off. It also looks as if the ceiling has sustained some water damage.
I will be contacting Scott Community College to see if they have any plans on fixing this old beauty.
I hope they don’t continue to run this theatre into the ground, it would be a real shame.

I’ve heard some rumblings that Devin Hansen (owner of the Brew & View) is interested in re-opening this theatre. It would be great, It’s been sitting empty for almost 10 years.

The Capri has been closed for as long as I can remember. Someone tried to turn it into a nightclub during the 90’s and I remember the band “A Flock Of Seagulls” played there but the next day it closed and has never reopened. A Indian Casino group wanted to buy it and turn it into a bingo hall but that was turned down by the city council.

JimmyC, I know the roof leaks badly other than that I have no information.
We currently have a “Brew and View” which runs newer independent releases and has a live band every once in a while, I have visited that establishment and it’s a nice place to catch a flick.

I will find out some more info on this theater and let you know.
