Drove passed and stopped at this one today, remember it well from my youth. Is currently a care home with the extension built at the rear for the main care home on the site we’re the auditorium once stood. Good to see the front part of it still there - I believe it was someone’s house for many years.
In early 2018 the building was sold by owners Northern Estates at auction and is now owned by a local Asian business man. The building has been leased to a local community group who have now reopened the building for use community reach for the last two months with various small scale events and workshops etc. In October there will be a series of film screenings as part Black History Month and in late November, Kinofilm, Manchester International Short Film Festival will be running it’s annual film festival from the theatre. Well i used to know the guy who last ran this cinema (into the ground), he did the same with a cinema he ran here in Manchester, and in Buxton and in Hyde. Ran them all into the ground from what I remember. Nice cinema this and would be nice to help get it open again.
Ammendment: In June I wrote that demolition had started. As it turned out I noticed two weeks later that they hadn’t started demolition at all, they took down the canopy outside and screened of the front of the building with advertising hoarded for the new building that will replace it. Apparently the, the new owners will not start demolition untill they have sold all the spaced for the proposed office block. That’s the story as far as I understand. Will post a photo of how it looks now.
As of this day demolition crew is moving in now, shame that this has happened but with no active group to save this once finest Paramount Theatre, it was only a matter of time. Great loss and manchester’s last remaining original cinema building in the city will be gone in a couple of months or so.
The Palace was actually put up for sale in October 06 and was taken of the market in Janaury 07 after the owner Jeremy powell’s circumstances changed and he decided to carry on running the cinema. It’s future under Jeremy is now saved. WEll done Jeremy.
does any one know what is going to happen to this fab cinema. I believe Gala Bingo are now moving out! Is the building going to be knocked down or is there any chance of saving it. I would like to view the cinema before anything happens to it. Does anyone have contact details of the owners?

Can you tell me if this cinema is still available on the market to lease of for sale. I may be interested but need to view it and the area in which it is in. I was very interested in reading about it . looks like it was a real nice cinema once. I’m curious as to what is happenning with it now. That is indeed good news. I visited this cinema once about 20 years ago on a visit to Amsterdam and the Arnhem Art house cinema.
Have the plans maintened the opening of the cinema? Is it still running art house? Do you have any more information since this posting.
