Tinseltoes,
Thanks for talking about it. August 6, 1959 must have been an absolute summer night in New York City to remember for a lifetime! With North by Northwest on the big screen in the big Hall, and add the Summer Festival and the spectacular “Serenade to the Stars,” and all the New York scenes in the movie, WOW!“ So, Tinseltoes, where can one find these unforgettable "bright-lights” moments in today’s NYC?
Radio City Music Hall is truly one of the Crossroads of this world. When you go there you can feel the sense of humanity that has passed through its portals, and the atmosphere is priceless. The art deco decor is the best. It was built for the masses, but fit for kings and queens. There is no finer place to go. Thank you Rockefellers, Donald Deskey, and Roxy Rothafel. In 1984 I saw the first MTV Awards show there. Madonna crawled around on stage in a wedding dress singing Like a Virgin, and Bette Midler and Dan Akroyd were the hosts. Huey Lewis, Rod Stewart, and others rocked out. It was great.
The Plaza Theater on 58th St. was a great cinema, one of the irreplaceable ones. I grew up in Westchester and I went there in 1965 at age 15 on my very first date to NYC. We ate at Reuben’s (just down 58th street a block or so, and another lost landmark), and then to the Plaza to see The Knack…And How To Get It. These places were really classic places, and I remember them like it was yesterday.

To tinseltoes:
Thanks for the Judy Holiday info, she was the best. So hard to believe “Bells are Ringing” was her last role. She was so unique.
Radio City Music Hall is The Palace of Dreams.
