The Ionia Theater remained open under Butterfield ownership until it was sold to the city under the auspices of the Ionia Theater Association and the Downtown Development Authority in the spring of 1985. For the last few years under Butterfield the theatre ran seasonally due to failure of the heating system. The Theater was never operated by Goodrich Quality Theaters, Goodrich ran the Drive-in located south of Town for a few years, nor was the theater ever known as Cinema3, Cinema4 or the Bijou Cinema, the latter may have been an older theater that once operated a block or so west on Main Street.
