The Weinber Center was the first building in Frederick County, MD to have air conditioning. The owner of the theater at the time to a Mr. Warner of Warner Brothers to bet on a curtain horse at a horse race. When the horse won, Mr. Warner promised him a favor. The owner asked Mr. Warner if he would pay to have air conditioning installed into the theater. Mr. Warner did, and the Tivoli became the first air conditioned building in the county. In the 1920’s and 30’s, people would come to the theater just to sit in the air conditioning.
The Roseland Theater’s doors have windows above them which read, “The best people on earth walk through these doors, our customers”, and “If when you pass you cannot stop, smile as you go by.” This really shows the essence of a small town theater.
This theater is the only theater left on Chincoteague Island. There were once three, the Star, The Island, and the Opera House. All of these theater were opened and operated by a Mr. Powell.
Originally one of Four Theaters in Hagerstown, including the Henry, Colonial, and the Academy. This theater has an amazing story of survival and is truly a landmark to the Hagerstown Area.
