during one of the first runs of “NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD” our resident mouser, Bootsy J. Hill, escaped from his dressing room back stage and calmly walked through the auditorium and jumped onto the back of one of the seats….a women fainted, left via stretcher. good times. i loved that cat. ;–)
“cool hand luke”(not a re-run) was playing the first time i showed up for work as an usher. mr. beazek mgr, john sandora was the assistant mgr. we had a resident cat named “bootsy” who stayed, for the most part, in one of the dressing rooms behind the stage while we were open, and had the run of the theater when we closed. i have a lot of fond memories, funny stories, and my feet still hurt.;–)
my dad took my to see the BLOB here. late 50’s/early 60’s. i forget, but it had just been released.
as i recall the movie theater was torn down and the lamont built in it’s place. i remember as a kid i watched a fight scene for the old tv serries, rt. 66 being filmed in fromt of the lamont.
in the late 50’s , .50cents would get you .15 cents worth (a small bag)of candy at the store across the street, and the remaining .35 cents would get you a whole afternoon of movies at the Shilo. three stooges, with paul shannon, hercules, etc. and i’m sure i didn’t appreciate it as much as i should have, a wonderful walk the lenth of Grandview Ave. to get home before the streetlights turned on, and what a Grand view it was.
i worked there in the sixties. Mr. Bezek was the manager. John Sandora was the ast mgr. i was an usher. never heard the suicide story, but am sorry for your loss.
has anybody opened it up yet?
