Can Anyone here tell me is this photo looking from the front door of the building towards the Auditorium doors or looking from the auditorium doors to the front doors leading to the street?
I personally do not know much about this theater. I had a mother that grew up in Clinton Ill. My Grandmother was Pat Cruthis a former teacher that taught school in Clinton. Both my mom and my grandmother have told me somethings about this theater not very much though. I was told that the buildings roof caved in as said here and that it was demolished. My mom however said she remembers going here as a kid to watch movies.
I am in my 30’s and I have only been in UPAC a few times when I was very young. I have to say I do not remember much about the inside of the theater. This would have been in the 90’s that I was in there. I most likely would have been at least 4 or 5 years old. My sister was part of New York Conservatory for the Arts (NYCA) and they were using UPAC back than for there theater shows. I do remember getting to go backstage there as a kid to see my sister before and after the shows. I remember that there was a door that led from backstage from the auditorium and one from the parking lot in the back of the theater. Those are the only memories that I have of this theater.
I am very glad to see someone has purchased this theater and has renovated it and is keeping it going. As a kid my family use to go here to see movies when it was Hoyts. I believe I have the name right of Hoyts if not feel free to correct me. If I remember right at that time it was a much smaller theater. It was than purchased by Regal group and I am not sure if I am remembering correctly but I believe they added more screens to add more theaters. When it was Regal I use to go with friends to see movies. The Mall this theater is located in is not in the best of shape lots of stores are gone. As I said before I am glad NCG purchase the theater and renovate it. I will definitely be going to see movies here.
Very interesting. I was the technical director for a local youth theater group that was housed the building that was this theater from 2001-2012. Unfortunately the inside of the building is not what things look like in these photos. These are very cool though thanks for putting this up.
I have to say that I remember as a young boy. I am about 30 now driving to Burger King which was in the front of the Mayflowers parking lot and seeing this building as it is in the picture above. I think it would have been cool to get to see the inside of the place before it became that tire dealer. The front of the building has the same layout but the colors have changed and the theater part is gone of course. It was cool to see even when it was all borded up
