A definite favorite of mine, my first date with the girl I married was here.
The Gates was envolved in a major fire which damaged it beyond repair.
It was operational until at least 1967 (when I left Portsmouth) the exact date of closure/demolition is not known to me. It also housed “The Little Theater of Portsmouth” a stage company. I saw my first stage play there.
