More like Miranda’s death in 1987 and Pussycat/Walnut Properties folding shortly after! I live in the San Francisco bay area chock full Pussycats in the 70s and 80s including 2 in Oakland alone. When Vincent died, one by one they all closed. It was not because of video or DVD. See Mann Theaters and Ted Mann for more information…
The setup for the brand new 5 screen configuration at that time was as follows:
Cinema 1 was split. Cinema 2 became Cinema 3. Cinema 3 was split into 3 theaters. The loge was 2 tiny shoeboxes the orchestra was one big mess of a theater nicknamed by all the Hayward theaters as THE DUNGEON!
Each side had a Manager’s office and box office which were desks.
Restrooms were located on both sides as well as a candy and soda machine.
Later the box offices were moved to a central location.
The lobby was enormous! But the cinemas themselves were quite dark.
Lots of stairs. Exits and projection booths. No elevators.
BTW the elephant bar is also now closed and demolished as well. Southland mall looks like a ghost town or a prison now… Memories!
As with all family run businesses (i.e. Mann Theaters), the owner died leaving his property to his children. The problem was there were 5 siblings some were in financial dire straits and there you have it folks! Sell, sell, sell. 65 years up in smoke! Shame really
😭😭🍞😳🫤😡
Now Summer apartment complex. The Smith’s grocery store was the parking lot to the south of this location. Please update.
Due to declining business?

Sad news folks!
The Mall of Orange aka the Villages at Orange closed permanently 1/31/24! 🥺🥺
Corrections:
This was called United Artists Cinema Center 6 until it became Roxy at the Square.
Townes Restaurant and Bar is located IN FRONT of this building at 610 not 620. As far as I know, the theater building remains unoccupied.
Please update. FYI I know Way too much about SR! 😉😘
Per rivest this been closed as a movie theater since 1999. It is now a performing arts center.
Please update.
Per above comment please update to ten screens. Thanks in advance! 😍
