Myrtle Theatre
Postcard from 1900-1908 circa. The building at the far end, before the Episcopal Church belfry, was called the “only hall in Thornton” by the writer of the message on the other side of this postcard. That “only hall” on the upper floor became Myrtle Hall/Theatre in succeeding decades. Thornton Village straddles Johnston (left side of street here) and Cranston (right) along Plainfield Street. The Myrtle building still stands as shops and apartments.

As a child in the 1940s and 1950s, I used to walk this street regularly to get to and from school.
