The article doesn’t specifically mention the theater, but then again, as J.B. above has shown, the theater didn’t even have a sign any more.
If it’s gone, what a shame…but then again, maybe good riddance and start fresh, considering the history.
It’s pretty crazy that J.B. just posted today saying “Here is how the Belvedere looks now” about 5 minutes after the call came in to the fire department (according to the article).
I was 9 years old when my family moved to Stone Mountain,
and I got to see quite a few great movies at Stonemont theater.
Something’s been bugging me: surely one of you guys remembers
the “Time Capsule” that was embedded in the concrete outside
of the front of the theater. My hazy recollection is that there
was a small metal plaque marking the spot, and that the date
was sometime in the 21st century.
I just drove by the (sadly dormant) theater 2 weeks ago and
saw no sign of a time capsule. Perhaps the grand date has
passed and I missed the festivities?
