The cinema opened in early 1966. Going for the first time it appeared modernistic with its blue light showing on the screen as my family seated ourselves. We saw a double bill of SHIP OF FOOLS and CAT BALLOU. The first film shown there was A PATCH OF BLUE.
I SAW MANY FILMS THERE. IT WAS DEMOLISHED IN 1973. BEFORE THAT HAPPENED I WENT IN THE THEATER AND RETRIEVED THE HAND PAINTED CARDBOARD BANNER THAT HAD THE THEATER’S NAME EMBLAZONED ON IT. MANY TIMES HAD I PASSED UNDER IT. I STILL HAVE IT. IT MAY BE THE SOLE REMAINING THING FROM THAT THEATER.
Saw 2001 first run here in 1968. My cousin, who was a science fiction fan had a hard time explaining it.
Saw the revival of BEN-HUR here in 1969. At the time it was the best sound separation I had heard in a theater.
Saw JACK THE GIANT-KILLER here TWICE in 1962.
The last film showed here was the revival of THE SOUND OF MUSIC in 1973.
The theater was demolished summer 1973. I went through the rubble and got an original DIRTY HARRY poster!
