I was House Manager at GRANADA Kingston in the early 60s - the General Manager was Charlie Longthorne, a gentleman Manager of the first ilk. We regularly had live shows, one performance on a Sunday…from Max Bygraves to Gene Vincent and other pop stars. Charlie wasn’t keen!… “this is a GRANADA flagship CINEMA thank you”!!

I was relief manager here in 1960. It was the first Granada-owned venue to utilise British-Thomson-Houston Xenon projection lamps instead of carbon arc……rumour was that Xenon lamps cost £900 each (my life!)

I was Asst Manager here (Eric Tripp was Gen Mgr)in 1960 when we screened The Trials of Oscar Wilde. We were both on duty in the foyer when a bunch of green carnations were delivered to me - I turned to Eric and asked, “What should I do with these?”….“Put one in your hair why don’t you?”!!
