Century Theatre Darling Street. Dubbo. Early 1960's.
The Monarch Empire Theatre was opened in July 1928. The last picture screened in the Monarch before it became the Century Theatre was “Stopover Tokyo” on Wednesday 10 December 1958. The first picture screened in the Century Theatre was the “Stowaway” on Thursday 11 December 1958. The Century Theatre was demolished in the early 1970’s to make way for a plaza with a fountain. Now the area is a car park. The Civic Centre was erected in 1968 before this theatre was demolished. The old Monarch Theatre just visible on the right of this photo was demolished when the Civic Centre was built in 1968.
