hey, would anyone be kind enough to post the article in the SUN on the site, about the recent sale of the met? and even any other published aticles? i’d really appreciate it. thanks in advance-g.
yes, i did see those pix, ken, and thank you. my compliments on your work. it’ll be great as well, if they’ll let you in, to take some more pix, before the work by the new owner starts. i’d love to see how the auditorium, lobby, and concession area, as well as other areas, look now. though i realize it’s probably not they way we remember, &could be quite saddenning. but would like to see anyway. is it known if they removed all the beautiful chandeleirs that were in the auditorium? anyway, ken, thanks a lot for note-g.
yes, hope you can do it while before renovations start. would be nice to see hoe the lobby area and auditorium look, whether they resemble a lot, they way we remember.—since i’m not in wpg, and can’t go see, are the boards off, can anyhting be seen through the windows?
well, i guess this is good news, at least much better than having her sit&rot away. just hope they keep as much intact&they way it was, as possible.—are the boards still off, then? can you see through the windows-lobby, concession stand, staircase? is it possible to see, from the sidewalk? if yes, does it look about the same as we remember, from what can be seen? would be great if somebody can take a few pix, and post them on the site.
yes, i find it truly sad that there still has been no movement re. the met. it’s great that there was such a good turnout fot the walker, 100 years is a real milestone. if only this spirit could be manifested for our much loved metroplolitan!
yes, gc, tearing her down to put up another faceless offive building is truly scary. like u say, they should just go ahead&spend $5illion, to turn it into something, and restore the grand dame to her old glory. they really need to put it to thd grindstone&finally come up with something viable. she’s sat for much too long, this is very sad. time to show people the stuff that wpg is really about! hopefully much different than other soulless places. thanks a lot for that, grand cameo. p.s.: somebody should print all this long list of comments about the met, and send it to centreventure&anyone invovled, to show the great interest still alive, re, the met. i haven’t lived there since i was a kid, and am very keenly interested on something being done!
ah ha, thanks for the heads up. would have been nice if he was truly involved. it would be a help if someone if influence and money was in there, to get the ball rolling. anyone tried mass prayer to st. jude?(half joking, bordering on serious!). anyway, keep any tidbits coming g c&thanks.
glad to hear all hope isn’t lost. just hope SOMETHING will be done, rather than it sit like it is. wasn’t burton cummings involved initially? did he pull out, or is there some interest. he managed to do something with the odeon. i’m sure he also went to the met, when he was a young lad.
i just read on the internet that the plans for the museum have been dropped. presuming this decision is final, guess it’s back to the drawing board. have any new ideas been mentioned? i hope it won’t sit vacant&unused for another 20 years.
appreciate that info. do you know anything about a theatre on talbot ave, in elmwood, called the elm? i beleive it closed in late 50’s, but i remember seeing this theatre, long closed, going by on the bus. that was when i lived there in the 60’s.
thanks bd, but that one was aware of already.—-and thanks for that info sam, you’re a real treasure trove of info, i must say. besides the 3 you mentioned on main, were there others there? and if u do get any more on any or all of them, it would be great.
ok, thanks sam. i really thought it was much further up, than the bay. isn’t the area known as st. james? it’s many many years since i lived in wpg. i do remember the rialto, used to go there all the time. when i went back to wpg last summer, 1st visit since early 70’s, i noticed it was gone. i never went to the ones on main st, but i beleive there’s 3 left, closed but still standing, right? do u know the names of the theatres? i know one was the starland. i remember they always showed horror movies on saturdays, used to go by on the bus.
thanks sam. when he mentioned the colony, i thought that was the other name for the gaiety, where i went as a kid. but wondered if i was on right track. ken said it was across from the bay, but i was sure it was much further up. how much further would it have been?
thanks for the pix, ken, nice to see, but sad to see the damage. anxious to see the others that you have. how long was FOTM active? did they come close to anything concrete? the colony, that wasn’t the gaiety that was further up portage?

you’re not kidding, it’s hard to find. so it’s to be turned in to a resto, then. will it be the whole space? i hope they put a movie theme decor, never forgetting its orgin.

ok, was hoping u had a bit of info. only info i did find once, on the web, had the opening&closing dates. beleive it closed in 1957 or 1958.
