Hoyts Esquire Theatre 238 Bourke Street, Melbourne, VIC – CinemaScope installed 23rd Nov 1955.
The Esquire’s first CinemaScope presentation was “Track of the Cat” starring Robert Mitchum, which opened on the 23rd November 1955.
Notes by Eric White: For the installation of CinemaScope the stage setting was changed. An extended valance replaced the swags, and new red curtains covered a generously proportioned screen inside the proscenium. Quote from a review: The new process of CinemaScope at the Esquire captures the white canvas of the countryside covered with new fallen snow wondrously.
