The Wintergarden theatre was an icon of the city and provided entertainment, including both films and live theatrical events, for nearly 50 years after officially opening on 12 January 1925 with the film The Thief of Bagdad.
Closing down night was July 29, 1974 with the screening of The Sound of Music - Proceeds went to the Mayor’s Charity Fund for Pensioners. Admission was $1.00.
