Capitol Theatre William Street and The Esplanade, Perth, WA & the Embassy Ballroom.
The Embassy Ballroom with its arched entrance sat alongside the Capitol Theatre. Sadly the Embassy suffered the same fate as the Capitol theatre.
The Embassy Ballroom was a dance hall on the corner of William Street and The Esplanade between 1928 and 1982. When established in 1928 it was across the road from White City and next door to the magnificent Capitol Theatre.
The floor was 12,000 square feet of jarrah timber. The building was affected by fire in 1933 but was repaired and re-opened the following year. In the 1930s, most large department stores in Perth had staff balls at the Embassy & It was a well used venue during and after the Second World War.
The Embassy Ballroom was closed November 26, 1982 and demolished soon after and with it went one of Perth’s great meeting places for romance and relationships. Newspaper cutting & notes courtesy of Lost Perth

Penny Reale writes - I just love the song rum and coca cola… I wish I could have gone to the embassy back then.
Wendy Mahoney writes - Penny Stewart my mother loved that song too, Penny - it reminded her of the US sailors she went out with during the War (before dad of course).
