State Theater 1412 Farnam Street, Omaha, NE

3-D Film Archive writes - Seventy years ago on November 10, 1953, Columbia Pictures fifth 3-D feature THE NEBRASKAN had its gala world premiere at the 1,081 seat State Theatre in Omaha, NE.

The film was available to exhibitors in both 2-D or 3-D versions and bookings were mixed throughout the country. For example, San Francisco opened it in 3-D while New York, Chicago and Los Angeles played it flat.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has done archival preservation from the original left/right 35mm Eastman color camera negatives. Unfortunately, they have not yet created a restored digital 3-D master which would allow both 3-D Blu-ray release and DCP availability for theatrical bookings

Theatre history - On September 14, 1929 the name of the Sun Theater was changed to the State Theater and it was closed by 1932. It had reopened by 1933 when it was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. By 1936 it was closed again. It remained closed into 1941. It had reopened by 1943 and continued mainly showing Walt Disney films, until 1969.

The State Theater was demolished in 1976.
