Seating 400, “the aristocrat of intimate cinema” was opened in Rundle Street as the Newsreel Theatre from 1943 and the Liberty Theatre by 1951 when it was taken over by the Hoyts chain.
The cinema was renamed Curzon Theatre when it became Adelaide’s first art-house theatre, showing foreign films or “sizzlers” in its final years in the early 1960s.
