Michael Magnusson writes - The Bijou was demolished back in 1934 but the site remained unused until 1938.

The car park was set up to make use of the site in the meantime. The Commonwealth Bank purchased part of the site. The last remaining wall of the Bijou along Russell Place was demolished in 1939. The picture shows the beginning of the construction of the new bank building.
