Gaiety Theatre 217 Bourke Street, Melbourne, VIC
The Bijou Theatre opened by 1902, the Bijou Theatre was upstairs, at the back of a grand arcade, and the Gaiety Theatre was downstairs in the front of the building.

BIJOU THEATRE 225 BOURKE ST MELBOURNE 1934 The Bijou Theatre opened in 1876, in Bourke st between Russell and Swanston Sts. It was built by Joseph Aarons, for an estimated £60,000, to designs by Joseph Reed and Frederick Barnes. It was a unique ‘island’ building with Bourke St at the front, Little Collins st at the rear and the lanes, Russell Place and Royal Lane on either side. The building was acquired in 1934, demolished and replaced by the Commonwealth Bank Building.
