Key Features of 1920s Pressed Metal Ceilings:

Typically made of steel panels pressed with decorative patterns. While often called “tin ceilings,” they were not actually made of tin but rather steel.

Pressed metal ceilings mimicked the look of ornate plasterwork, offering a wide range of patterns and designs.

They were touted as durable, fireproof, and easier and cheaper to install than plaster. Widely used in shops, restaurants, offices, homes, and even churches and ships.

Prevalent from the 1890s to the 1920s, with the 1920s seeing the rise of Art Deco designs in pressed metal. Installation: They were often painted to resemble plaster or stucco.
