Wests Theatre 91 Hindley Street, Adelaide, SA - Early 60's
Who remembers when we had usherettes in our picture theatres? Tonnika Xenides posted a photo in South Australia’s Showbiz Memories; “Looking Smart,
Usherettes in uniform at Wests Theatre, Hindley Street, Adelaide. Early 1960s.”
Fabulous photo of the ladies from Wests. There was usually an usher or usherette on every aisle and if you had booked seats and you came late, when the lights were down, they would take you to your seat in the darkened theatre. Using their torch and without disturbing other patrons the Usherette guided you to your seat.
That’s when “going to the pictures” was a really big night out on the town. Remember?
