A FINE PICTURE THEATRE - Enterprise at Newmarket
Newmarket residents are to be congratulated upon the possession of a picture theatre that will challenge com parison with the very best that any of the Melbourne suburbs can boast.
The building is an imposing structure, and forms one of the conspicuous architectural features in the leading thoroughfare of the district.
Through the enterprise of Mr Robert Mcleish, it has been transformed both externally and internally Into a most handsome and up-to-date picture house, and one in which the convenience and comfort of patrons have received special attention.
In his successful direction of affairs at tho Northcote picture theatre Mr Mcleish has displayed all the qualities of a diligent and capable amusement entrepreneur, and in extending his activities further afield he carries with him the good wishes of a host of business and private friends. The Newmarket picture house is the first of a chain of theatres which is his intention of running in conjunction with the business he has so long and ably conducted at North cote.
The improvements effected at Newmarket have turned the building into practically a new place.
The theatre has been renovated, re-seated,and decorated throughout. The bright and cheerful aspect of the interior produced by the decorative scheme, at once arrests attention and admiration.
The approaches to the dress circle and main hall have been beautified with a tasteful and artistic design of cream coloring, relieved with gold, and enhanced with a series of finely executed decorative panels in blue and fawn. For the main hall the color scheme ts a harmonious blending of white and brown, this in keeping with the suggestion of light and brightness aimed at in the general design.
