Carlton Theatre 103 Queen Street, Brisbane, QLD - Rear Projection

Carlton Theatre 103 Queen Street, Brisbane, QLD – The Carlton Newsreel to feature REAR PROJECTION – Brisbane Telegraph, Thurs 14 Sept 1939.

To Quote – It is notable that the screen, instead of being the orthodox fabric, is of ground-glass, with the projectors throwing the image from behind. The composition of the screen and the fact that the distance between it and the projectors is only a few feet will give a particularly sharp image which will be appreciated by patrons.

Comment: The set-up may have been the same as the Times Theatrette in Melbourne where the (sound proofed) bio box is located behind the screen. The projectors face each other screening into a mirror that reflects the image onto a translucent perforated sound screen. The results are usually excellent. At the time rear projection in a major city theatrette was unique to “The Times” in Melbourne – Contributed by Greg Lynch –
