Talkies come to The Rink Theatre
The “going to the pictures” on a Saturday night was a big part of Pingelly’s social scene. The Rink Theatre in Queen Street had a seating capacity of 400. The original cinematograph machines did not have sound and the music score was played on an organ within the theatre. I had a conversation with Harry Harding and he told me how he converted the cinematograph machines to be capable of reproducing the sound strip on the motion pictures. The Rink Theatre continued to operate until the Pingelly Drive-in Cinema was built. The Rink Theatre was demolished soon after – Contributed by Greg Lynch – – For the sake of history
