MAYFAIR NEWSREEL CINEMA. New Show for Perth.
Perth’s first newsreel theatre is expected by its promoters to be ready for public performances by late November. To be known as the Mayfair, the cinema will be situated in the basement areas beneath,Levinson’s buildings in Hay-street. Mr. J. Moss. acting for the syndicate behind the venture, said yesterday that the Mayfair would represent a £13.000 investment. It would be equipped with R.C.A. plant, latex, seating and air conditioning. The site had been obtained on a 15-year lease. Mr. Moss said that he had been interested in several Melbourne and Adelaide independently-owned suburban theatres for many years. Other members of the syndicate be- hind the Mayfair were newcomers to the film industry. “Although some people doubt whether Perth can ‘carry’ a newsreel theatre, we are confident of success he said. "We are budgeting for as average attendance of one-third capacity and this will give us a fair return.” - Contributed by Greg Lynch -
