The lobby is gone. I remember how beautiful it was as a teenager in the ‘60’s. With the re-birth of Harlem I hope there will be some real efforts but forth to restore the remaining (?) theatres/cinemas.
Old and solid is ALWAYS better than new and plastic.

My mother grew up in Greensboro and she told me about this theatre. Because she was African American she could only sit in the balcony on days designated for colored people. If this is not part of the history it should be.

It would be nice if the city had a little vision and incorporated the theatre into the plans for the new school. This would be a win-win situation for all. Be innovative. There will be an auditorium in the school anyway, make the old theatre the new auditorium. How can we expect our children to have any appreciation for the past and history if we keep tearing it down. You will never know where you are going if you don’t know or can’t remember where you’ve been. Besides all the nostalgia, the old construction is light years better than the new.

The ballroom has been restored. I attended a function there recently and the restoration is beautiful.
