Ww operate a small theatre in Ulysses Kansas in the southwest corner, and we deal with a lot grade school and Junior high kids, and it seems they all own a cell phone. We end up with a pretty good collection of cell phones on Friday night mostly, because we go and take it a wwy fromthem a tell them thwy can pick it up when the movie is over. A few get mad and leave beflore the movie is over, but thet get over it and when they come back they are real good. We just have to stay on top of it, but we know a lot of ouir customers which helps.

I managed the ORIENTAL Theatre starting in 1957 after i got dischared from the NAVY and managed it thru 1958 then went to Gunnison Colorado. Atlas Theatre corp had just made a deal with Civic Theatres to take over operation of the ORIEVTAL, FEDERAL< HOLLIDAY (which used to be the EGYPTIAN Thatre) and the CORONET Theatre which was just up the stree on 44th from the ORIENTAL. Charles Yeager was the Owner Atlas theatre and ATOZ Amusements. He remodeled the ORIENTAL in 58 and really made a nice theatre out of it. Nicest seats at that time, tile and carpet, sighn worl etc. After it was remodeled we took move over movies from the PARAMOUNT Theatre and the ALADIN Theatre, DENVER and othe first run theatres. The movies usually was a 2 week run downtown and then it was usually 3 to 4 weeks before it got to sub run. The move over policy worked very well for several years. Years later it became a Adult Theatre showing X rated then later was a 50 cent bargain Theater. I always liked the ORIENTAL and very happy to see that it still has life in it. posted by richard dueley on Nov1,2005 at 8:58pm.

I think that I can help brucec with some of the theatres doentoen DENVER. I started working at the FOX RIALTO in 1949 and worker there till 1953. The DENVER Theatre was across the street from the PARAMOUNT, and go around the corner on 16th and Welron street, on the east side of the street was the TELENEWS Theatre which was later nmed the WELTON Theatre, and across the street on the west side was the beautiful ORPHEUM Theatre. Going down 16th street to Curtis, turn siuth towards 15th and the RIALTO Theatre was on the east side. On 16th and curtis, mid block on 16th was the world famous TABOR Theatre facing north. Going towards 17th street north on curtis was the VICTORY Theatre, nest door was the COLORADO and down the street was the PALACE Theatre. Crossing 17th on the west side was the PLAZA Theatre which was later named rhe ROUND UP that showed only westerns. On 18th and curtis on the east side wsas the GEM Theatre, coming south to 17th street on the east side was the ISIS Theatre. Coming up curtis stree going south in the middleof the block on the east side was the STATE Theatre. In 1951 FOX built the NEW CENTRE Theatre I believe it was Broadway and 16th. There was the BROADWAY Theatre on 18th and Broadway and going down to 18th and California was the DENHAM Theatre. I hope this was easy to understand. posted by richard dudley on Nov 1, 2005 at 8:35pm.
