All the Commack Drive In ads and the outgoing answering machine messages (I actually have a few) say the address is Veterans Hwy next door to the Long Island Arena. No address number is giving. Its definitely NOT Jericho Tpk.
Vigilant Realty…no(e)…was first where White Castle is now in Commack and then it moved to where Blockbuster is now in Commack Corners. The Commack Drive In intermission commercials I remember were Neuman Auto Tops…Shuberts Auto Body and a store in the Mayfair shopping center that I cant remember…but the Mayfair theater marquee was shown playing Putney Swope and Pink Flamingos!
Hey BLOOP…do you remember when the re-release of Texas Chainsaw played the Commack DI in the early 80’s… they had workers warning patrons on line in their cars that film print was bad and that once they paid…they would NOT get their money back? We entered anyway. My dad had taken me to see TEXAS CHAINSAW when it was first released at the Commack Drive in in 1974…it played with a comedy called MAD MAD MOVIE MAKERS.
Great photos BLOOP! Actually I did some research in the late 90’s and the COMMACK DRIVE IN opened no earlier than 1952 and no later than 1953. I’m still in search of photos of the ORIGINAL Commack Drive In marquee before it was changed in 1980 to the one in the BLOOP photo’s. I think BLOOP and I are the only two people alive this obsessed with the Commack Drive In!
Don’t know…Bloop. I saw Rocky Horror at Haupauge also but in 1980. Also saw JAWS at Haupauge in 75. I missed POLYESTER at RKO but all my friends went without me. Thats awesome that you collected the cards. I actually saved the large popcorn box from RKO when I saw the THE OMEN there…but its now sadly gone. I was a freak when I was a kid about movie memorabilia.

I remember sitting at the OLD Candlelight diner as a child in 1971 and looking out the window to see EVEL KNEVEL playing at RKO. My father took my family to see it right after. I remember every movie i’ve seen there. From “Westworld” to “The Omen” to “Star Wars” to “All That Jazz” to “Sign of the Times”. I actually have a recording of the outgoing answering message of RKO Commack from 1980 when “Blue Lagoon” and “Empire Strikes Back” was playing AND they were doing separate admission midnight shows of “WIZARDS” and “LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT”

The movie is NOT You Light Up My Life. The poster for that film is similar but clearly different. I think this photo is older than 1977.

The Marrying Kind has a drive in marquee that says Century Drive In NOT the 110 Drive In. I got excited for a moment.

The first time I went to the Commack DI was a double bill in 1971—COLD TURKEY w/ THE OUT OF TOWNERS
The last movie I saw there was COBRA in 1986
