All of the theatres mentioned above we’re based on the design of the Town
Cinema 6 in Charlotte, N.C. The auditoriums down each side and the concession stand in the middle of the lobby. The Havelock theatre did start out as a 4 plex and two auditoriums were added by Stewart & Everett in 1986 just before being purchased by Carmike Cinemas.
This was my first theatre as manager. Later opened Oakwood twin in 1977.
Stewart & Everett Theatres were bought by Carmike Cinemas in 1986. Would like to hear from anyone that worked at these theatres in the 70’s
and early 80’s.
To Bevo:
I worked at the Center Theatre from 1965 through college until 1971. It was
a great place to work. I cannot get the picture of the Center you posted from the late 80’s to come open. Could you please send it to my email address
. Thank you.
The third auditorium was not added until the eighties. The theatre is currently owned by an old time Stewart &Everett theatre manager. Good luck.

The Oakwood Cinema opened in August of 1977. It was part of the Stewart & Everett Theatre chain.
