The Alpha Theatre, located at 221 Clifton St, Waco Texas, in the East Riverside Neighborhood.. Closed. Next door at one time was the Alpha Grill. I’m guessing, by the looks of the Theatres' condition, it has been closed for some 30+ years as a Theatre. It was possibly converted into another type of business in the structures latter years, but has since been sitting idle for a while now. The “Alpha Theater” was opened and operated from around/between 1950-1970 with 492 seats. Opened by Waco (still semi-called historically “Six Shooter Junction” at the time) residents; Heyward Weaver Jr. ( (1921-2005), Edward D. Bonner Jr. (1919-86) and George L. Pryor (1918-63), ex-GI’s returning home from WWII, it was predominately the only Black theater in Waco other than “The Gem” (but, only for a period of time until the Gem closed).
