1940s insurance photo by Ted Newman, of the Del Mar’s auditorium and original curtain, taken from the balcony. Comparison of this image with a similar view Newman took of the California Theatre in Petaluma would indicate that William Chavalas, the Del Mar’s decorator, also designed the 1930s remodel of the California in Petaluma.

Gary what happened to the deco ceiling lights??? No longer up. Someone must have them in their home theatre.
Deco handsome interior. Without the beautiful lights much is gone. They are great. Art deco relief work above the doors and around proscenium is great though. A lovely theatre and great it is still alive and well. Landmark is better than nothing. Cheers!
