My impression of the presence of theaters presenting regular showing of movies in lower-income neighborhoods is that it is a rare exception rather than a common happening. According to the U. S. Census Bureau, in 1959, out of a total population of 176,000,000, 31.1% or 54, 940,000 people were below 125% of the poverty guidelines. In 2024, out of a total population of 337,300,000, 14.2% or 47,920,000 people lived below 125% of the poverty guidelines. Source: Motion Picture Exhibitor, April 6, 1966
