Liberty Theatre
Not only did Otto Camphin of Katoomba Theatres refuse to run ads in his newspaper for Leura screenings by Johnson/Gelston’s Affiliated Enterprises, but when he discovered that they were to screen “Snow White” (the biggest blockbuster of 1938) 3rd to 9th December at the Civic, he ran large advertisements – one at the top of the front page – with the deceptive claim that the screenings would not be happening, using the classic ‘small print’ ploy. Another act of sabotage was that posters put up in the district advertising the Leura “Snow White” screenings were immediately torn down by ‘persons unknown’.
