Regent Theatre
One of the pioneering 3-strip Technicolor features - and the first full color title to be shown at the Regent, “The Garden of Allah” opened 5th February 1937 (following “Cain & Mabel”). The new carpet shown here had just been laid. This upstairs ‘Regal Promenade’ (its décor attempting to suggest the Palace of Versailles) is 100 feet long and up to 37 feet wide. Patrons climb the main staircase from the Lobby and pass large mirrors to reach this foyer area, from which two staircases rise to each end of the Dress Circle cross-over.
