Regent Theatre
Fox considered shooting their 1962 re-make of “State Fair” in Todd-AO 70mm (in which case it would have played the Mayfair or Paris), but being in CinemaScope 35mm meant R & H could make one last appearance at the Regent. WB’s “Bonnie & Clyde” was a big release of 1968. The Australian censor cut the film, and also required a change to the poster. Local ads say ‘They rob banks’ instead of the original: ‘They kill people’. Television was countered in the late 1950s by a Hoyts campaign promoting ‘bigness’. Colorized photo is of the Regent front-of-house banner in 1961.
