All that remained of the Regent by August 1990 was the white wooden footpath hoarding. The site remained vacant until it was sold November 2002 for $A58.2m. The following year, construction started on a 56 storey skyscraper at the site called ‘Regent Place’. At one time the inclusion of cinemas was mooted, but this did not eventuate.
