Hoyts Esquire Theatre
Seemingly overnight, the old De-Luxe was transformed on 15th November 1946 into ‘Melbourne’s newest showplace rendezvous’ The Esquire. This upgrade and name change was undertaken to cope with a product backlog created by Hoyts having lost its major venue - the Regent - to fire. (Earlier in the year Hoyts had taken over the Cameo cinema in Pitt Street Sydney and renamed it the Esquire. Both cinemas used the same logo and lettering style.)
