Built in 1915, this was the flagship theater of Alexander Pantages' vaudeville empire. During this time he lived in Seattle. After Pantages' death in 1936, the theater became known as the PALOMAR and played a vaudeville/movie policy through the 1950’s. It closed in 1967 and was demolished.

In 1943, the Las Palmas was rechristened “Dante’s Troupers Theater” for a long run of the world-touring magic and illusion show, “Sim Sala Bim” starring Dante (Harry Jansen) who in 1941 appeared with Laurel & Hardy in the film “A Haunting We Will Go.” The Dante show was so big that much of the scenery and backdrops had to be cut down and folded to fit on the stage at the Las Palmas. The show ran about 6 months during 1943.

In the 1970’s this theater was known as “Jack McGovern’s Music Hall” run by a local restauranteur and night club owner. They had a revue show, “The Follies” which ran for several years. The theater also hosted many celebrity appearances; Bob Hope, The Mills Brothers, etc. during the early 80’s. A great venue that was sad to see torn down.

Did anyone mention that the Central Park is recognized as the first theater in the U.S. to be air conditioned.
