E.H. Hulsey took a chance on motion pictures in 1926 securing a high profile road show for the most expensive silent era film ever made, MGM’s “Ben Hur.” Hulsey’s legit theater sold out and he would soon thereafter take a gamble on installing Dallas' first $25,000 Vitaphone synchronizer bringing talkies to Dallas.
