Pitt-Roth Circuit / Pitts Theatres operated the Broadway Theatre here for African American audiences. In 1940, it was given a streamline moderne makeover and was renamed in a contest in December of 1940 which changed the name of the venue to the Carver Theatre. The refreshed Carver opened January 24, 1941 with Jane Withers in “Youth Will be Served.”
