Carroll’s first Drive-In Theatres was one mile North on U.S. 71 launching with “Abie’s Irish Rose” on September 9, 1948. Just weeks after the Drive-In Theatre’s launch, Pioneer Theatre Corporation announced it would build the Carroll Drive-In Theatre on a ten-acre plot just east of the city on Highway 30. But the circuit bought the existing drive-in calling it the Carroll Drive-In Theatre for the 1949-1952 drive-in seasons. Then it built the new Carroll D-I that it had planned years earlier.
