I was the projectionist at the Ghiradelli on and off in the 70’s It had the best projection booth of any theater I have been in. The theater was bulit to be the new “Hungary I” A nightclub. When that failded it became the Ghiradrlli Cinema, and the manager’s office became the projection booth.It had air conditioning,a large bathroom with a shower.
I think the trouble it had was the fact that parking was almost impossible.It was in a tourist part of town.
I was a projectionist in San Francisco for 32 years. I did my training at the Alhambra in 1970,with Virgil Morgan. I did the day off shift there till they twined it,then I went back a few times when they put it back to a single screen. It was one of my favorite theater to work . I am glad they save most of it for the gym
I saw the 3D movie “The Maze” at the Egyptian in 1953. This was not a picture that was seen by many.and seeing “Them” and “The Great
Caruso” at the Egyptian.
What a wonderful childhood I had at the movies in Sioux Falls

I used to go to the Orpheum when I was a boy in the early 50’s My dad would give me a quarter,and the ticket was 10cents,popcorn was 5 cents a box,I would get two boxes,and have 5 cent left to call my dad to pick me up.
They would show great Bmovies like “The Bowery Boys”,“Johnny Mack Brown” westerns. I treasure thoughs times

I grew up in Sioux Falls,and remember going to the Hollywood theater, and seeing “The Thing"and "Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein” and everytime I play thoese movies I think of the Hollywood Theater,and all the great Sat.I spent there

I got to work as the projectionist for the Cento Cedar. What was so different about this theater wsa the fact that it had rear projection. That meant you could not shoot the picture directly on the screen,or you would blind everyone in the theater,so you shot into a mirror that reflected the picture onto the screen. Since you were behind the screen,you could have very little light. You were working almost in the dark. Not many projectionist got to do rear projection,I am glad I did.
I was a projectionist at the Castro Theater on and off for 32years. It is a great theater to work,because you had to know all formats of projection. From silents to 3D to wide screen. It was great fun, and I miss it.
