Amazing, the plan looks great. The new marque looks wonderful - and the re-creation of the big vertical ‘Loew’ Jersey' sign is really ‘the frosting on the cake’!
Many of us feel that the destruction of this landmark Palace was ‘a crime against New York’ (along with the Brooklyn Fox, Academy Of Music 14th Street, and others
This is the Chapel Street entrance / exit for Loew’s College (at this time only an ‘exit’) the extended ‘over-hang’ projection booth can be seen. After decades of closure and water damage, this booth collapsed into the alley below, this led to the entire water damaged theater being demolished. The only part that remains is a small portion of the lobby on College Street which is now a retail store. A sad ending for the Hyperion Theater.
The Westville Theater survived into the 1970s – I saw Saturday Night Fever and Super Fly there. Small neighborhood second run theater in the Westville section of New Haven.
Great large space! EASY TO GET TO location right in Times Square. Watching for the next ‘sponsor’ to take over since PlayStation did not continue the lease…..How about “The Manhattan Arena” …..sounds like a great idea!
THE SHUBERT THEATER NEW HAVEN CT. – “AMERICA’S GREATEST HISTORICAL LIVE THEATER” – A SHORT LIST OF THE WORLD PREMERE’S AT NEW HAVEN’S SHUBERT THEATER………OKLAHOMA (Away We Go), CAROUSEL, THE KING & I, THE SOUND OF MUSIC. PETER PAN, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, MY FAIR LADY, ANIMAL CRACKERS, THE PHILEDELPHIA STORY, HAMLET (1923 John Barrymore), A RASIN IN THE SUN, LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT, CAN CAN, PLAZA SUITE, THE ODD COUPLE…….
So sad to see another NYC classic theater destroyed and turned into more ‘retail’ space. Should have absolutely been restored to it’s original classic theater for movies.
Went once – what a waste of time. Theaters are so small, it’s like watching your large screen TV at home. – Well – back to the Loew’s Jersey 3200 seat Palace for some classic films on that huge screen! (wish the King’s in Brooklyn would show films from time to time)

This is correct, KING KONG played at the ‘Center’ aka ‘New Roxy’. A lawsuit forced the ‘New Roxy’ to change the name to “The Center Theater' later.
another NYC ‘treasure’ destroyed! Retail1 - that’s one place I will NOT be spending any of my money!

and on the top right you can see the corner of the marquee of the second Poli theater on Church Street The 3000 seat Loew’s Poli Palace.
Yep, that’s the Poli Bijou on Church Street in New Haven.

one of the saddest photos on this site. what a ‘sin’
The ‘box’ marquee in this photo was replaced by the 2-sided marquee. You can see part of the stylish vertical sign that adorned the theater.

one of the most sad photos on this site.
This photo was uploaded by the CLASSIC THEATERS collection, it is an advertisement from a 1968 edition of the NEW HAVEN REGISTER.
The Whitney snagged the regional premiere of “JAWS' in 1976 – the film played to sell out crowds forever!

how sad to see this horrible replacement on the site where a ‘palace’ once stood…
