When the Commodore originally closed on December the 3rd 1987, the final films to be shown were, Surrender, A nightmare on Elm street part 3 and Ishtar.

Queens didn’t close until September 27th 1985. Last film was Friday the 13th part V.

The Regal closed on October 3rd 1986, last film being Poltergeist 2.

The Regal closed in Oct ‘86. It didn’t get boarded up till '93.

There is a campaign to save this fantastic old building and to turn it back into a cinema once again.

The Cannon Group didn’t take over this, and all the remaining Island cinemas until the mid 80’s. The bingo finished here in 1987 during Cannon’s ownership.It remained the Picturedrome up until it’s closure on the 17th Feb 2000 with the final films being “House on haunted hill” and “American beauty”

When the Star Cinemas chain took over, the Rex only opened for the summer season.It closed on Sept 10th 1980 with “Kramer vs Kramer”.After the fire of 1993 the amusement arcade continued to operate until the building was demolished in 2001.
